The region is home to some of the world’s largest and fastest-growing economies, including the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar, with significant investments being made in modernizing their agricultural systems. The focus on sustainability and reducing water usage has led to the adoption of advanced technologies such as drip irrigation, hydroponics, and vertical farming. SAUDI ARABIA
With a growing population and limited arable land, Saudi Arabia is looking for innovative solutions to boost its food production. The country has set ambitious targets to increase its domestic food production and heavily relies on global imports.
KUWAIT
Despite being one of the wealthiest countries globally, Kuwait is a desert land. Kuwaiti food companies are one of the largest food importers in the MENA and are actively sourcing innovative agritech products to their business to produce locally.
OMAN
Oman has been investing in developing its agriculture sector, particularly in modernizing its irrigation systems and promoting sustainable farming practices. Oman tycoons have been importing agritech products into the country to dominate the market for the last five years.
UAE
The country has been investing heavily in developing its agriculture sector, particularly in vertical farming and hydroponics. The UAE government has launched several initiatives to promote the import of advanced technologies, including agritech, to support the country’s food security goals. One such initiative is the Dubai Future Accelerators (DFA) program, which is an innovation program that connects government entities with global technology startups to develop and implement innovative solutions in order to achieve its goal of becoming a regional food hub.
QATAR
Qatar has a high dependency on food imports, and the country is looking to reduce its reliance on foreign food supplies. With a limited water supply and harsh climate, The Qatar Investment Authority (QIA) has been largely focusing on the import of agritech products that can help increase local food production and enhance food security.
NEOM is a planned cross-border city in the Tabuk Province of northwestern Saudi Arabia. The project was announced by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in 2017 and is intended to be a model for a new kind of sustainable and technologically advanced city. The city is designed to be a hub for innovation and technology, with a focus on developing new agricultural technologies that can help to improve crop yields, reduce water usage, and increase efficiency in the sector.
The city plans to leverage advanced technologies such as vertical farming, biotechnology, and precision agriculture to increase the productivity of the region’s agriculture sector.
